Do you have technical project management experience and a passion for mechanics?

We are looking for an experienced technical R&D Manager for our UK business, leading the technical overall development of projects ranging from mechanics and hardware elements to electronics and software. The R&D units are positioned in Sandy and in Milton Keynes.

Plockmatic Group is a global supplier of finishing solutions to the print and mailing business. Our technologies connect inline to a digital printing system or process applications offline and are sold under the Plockmatic, Morgana and Watkiss brand names. Each brand develops its mechanics, electronics and software and carries out the most development work in project form.

As R&D Manager, you will manage and develop new technical solutions in machines from idea to prototype. Here you get the chance to test your ideas, solve problems and deliver a complete machine to the customer’s wishes.

The Position

The task is to deliver machines with different features such as moving parts, embedded systems and real-time customization. It is your responsibility to take part in the various technical challenges of the project to find overall solutions for a finished machine. You have the technical skills required to monitor project development in all stages from order to finished product. You are a team leader and will have staff liability for a team of ~8.

  • Coordinate the assigned product portfolio, including new development, enhancements, alternations and customization
  • Take part in the various technical challenges of the projects to find overall solutions for a finished machine
  • Monitor project development in all stages from order to finished product and project manage at operational level
  • Write requirement specification from a technical perspective
  • Act as a sounding board for team managed projects, solving technical issues with the team and prioritize between tasks when needed
  • Lead the technical resources in your team, coaching, allocating and developing the team.

Your Experience

First of all, we think you’re passionate about mechatronics, robotics or similar. You have the least a university degree with a focus on mechanics or mechatronics or the like. You have a solid mechanical background, and you have several years of experience working on a project basis.

We consider it very important that you have experience with moving mechanics, like working with different process steps in a machine, and having a great understanding of the relationship between mechanics, electronics and software. Understanding programming is very meritorious. We believe you have knowledge of CAD, Creo/SolidWorks or equivalent. You are a person who is practically made and who is passionate about machines, maybe you are the one who has your own mechanical workshop in the basement?

We also attach great importance to personal qualities. We think you are quite comfortable as a person and confident in yourself.  You dare to challenge, you suggest things because you believe in it yourself. You are able to take discussions, sometimes you need to be stubborn and sometimes you are the one who catches good ideas. Furthermore, you have the power and excellent ability to communicate with people. You work after all in a group of several employees who will work together to achieve a common goal.
