Senior Electronics Design Engineer

Position Summary

Working as a member of a multidisciplinary team the role of the Electronics Engineer is to provide the technical lead for electrical and electronic systems integration, to enable assigned projects to progress towards and ultimately achieve the product target specifications. The role will require design, implementation and test of circuits and subsequent transfer from R&D to production.

The Electronics Engineer will be a senior member of the Engineering Team and be involved in establishing the architecture of future product ranges and guiding products throughout development stages to ensure regulatory requirements are met and required certifications are obtained.

Successful Outcome

The success of this role can be measured in key areas:

  • Personnel Support: Working alongside electronic engineers, software engineers, mechanical engineers, and possibly subcontractors in the design, implementation, testing and certification of Plockmatic systems, of both new and existing products.
  • Project Based Work: Ensure that the electrical and electronic systems enable the product to meet target specifications that comply with applicable regulations and certifications. Facilitating the transfer of the design to production including progression through EMC and safety certifications. Self-management of assigned projects and reporting to management.
  • Group Co-operation: To liaise with Design Engineers, Production, Technical Support, Documentation and supply chain staff.
  • External Co-operation: Subcontract suppliers, test houses and third part certification authorities. Occasional Customer visits may also be required.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • A proactive member of a multi-disciplinary team taking personal and joint responsibility for the success of the projects you are involved in.
  • Review and assist in verification and validation of product designs.
  • Test innovative mechanical, electro-mechanical, Software, GUI and systems based on the design or product specifications. Providing written engineering reports to the team.
  • Develop and optimise designs based on solid engineering principles, laboratory tests and field trial results.
  • Provide new ideas, solutions and improvement feedback to the design team.
  • Provide technical feedback to improve part and assembly manufacturability and performance.
  • Investigate reported faulty products, fix issues and report for quality improvements.
  • Assist in supporting new product field trials and early adopters to ensure rapid feedback and resolutions of quality or performance issues.
  • Work closely with the technical author and engineering team in creating manuals, technical bulletins and other documentation for distribution to the wider company, customers and end users. Providing content and reviewing documentation.
  • Assist in training sales, and service support engineers, in the commissioning, operation and service of new machines.
  • Any other tasks in line with the company’s core business objectives.

Qualifications

A good degree in Electronics Engineering or allied science subject or equivalent ability gained through an alternative pathway.

Experience

  • Experienced electronics design – 5+ years
  • Experience of working on at least one significant project from requirements planning through to completion.
  • Involvement in some capacity with EMC and certifications process.

Skills/Abilities

  • Analogue and Digital Circuit design using Vutrax, Altium or similar.
  • Design for European EMC rules
  • Understanding of Electrical Safety (IEC62368-1) and how it applies to Low Voltage Directive
  • Appreciation of IEC/ISO standards and CB scheme, NRTL voluntary marks, UL, CSA, VDE.

Travel

Occasional local travel and international travel may be required to perform duties.  Full driving license and passport required.
